Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá
Đắk Lắk(Tịnh xá Ngọc Quang)
Overview & history
Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá (Buddhist monastic residence) is located at 22 Đoàn Thị Điểm Street, Buôn Ma Thuột Ward, Đắk Lắk Province, with an area of 3,123 m². The tịnh xá belongs to the Vietnamese Mendicant Buddhist Sect (Đạo Phật Khất Sĩ Việt Nam), Congregation III.
Brief History of Formation
In the year Canh Tý (1960), Đức Thầy Giác An paused his journey of spiritual transformation at this place. With the aspiration to propagate the Dharma and benefit sentient beings of Đức Thầy, and the enthusiastic support of virtuous laymen and laywomen, Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá was established.
Architectural Overview
By 2004, after more than 40 years of construction and development, the facilities of the tịnh xá had begun to deteriorate. Thượng tọa Thích Giác Dũng decided to undertake a major renovation and expansion of the tịnh xá, with main works including: the Main Hall (Chánh điện), Lecture Hall (Giảng đường), Monks’ Quarters (Tăng xá), Relic Stupa (Bảo tháp Xá Lợi), and Avalokiteśvara Pavilion (Quan Âm các).
On the morning of 11 March, year Ất Mùi (29 April 2015), the monks and Buddhist followers of Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá solemnly held the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 3-storey Activity House, a 7-storey Relic Stupa, and a 1-storey Bell Tower.
Today, Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá is a disciplined and orderly centre for Buddhist study and practice for thousands of followers of the Mendicant Sect (Khất Sĩ) in the Central Highlands region.
Vietnam Record
On 24 May 2009, the Vietnam Book of Records Centre awarded Ngọc Quang Tịnh xá the honour of receiving the Vietnam Record for being the "first Mendicant tịnh xá to confer the Three Refuges (Tam Bảo) upon the Ê-đê people in Vietnam".
