Pagodas in Huế began to appear in greater numbers during the Nguyễn Lords period, especially after Nguyễn Hoàng came to govern the Thuận Hóa region. The pagodas in Huế experienced significant development from the reign of Emperor Gia Long to that of Emperor Duy Tân. During this time, in addition to restoration, reconstruction, and repairs, many new pagodas were built. Today, Huế is a place with a high density of pagodas, with over one hundred large and small pagodas. There are Buddha statues, Bodhisattva statues, bells, bronze gongs, stone gongs, and many other Buddhist artefacts from the Lê, Trịnh, and Nguyễn periods that are still preserved and worshipped in the pagodas of Huế. This constitutes a cultural treasure of Huế Buddhism.
