Chùa Tịnh Quang
Tịnh Quang Pagoda is a pagoda located on a mountainous area to the southwest of Ái Tử village, in Triệu Phong district, Quảng Trị province. This is the only tổ đình (ancestral/parent monastery) in Quảng Trị province, belonging to the Northern School of Vietnamese Buddhism, and is considered a spiritual symbol of Buddhism in Quảng Trị. Several monks who have been closely associated with the pagoda always regard it as their ancestral land, while some local people see the pagoda as a centre of charity.
The pagoda also holds an annual Tổ Anniversary Festival on the 18th day of the 2nd lunar month, organised in coordination by the Provincial Buddhist Administration Committee and the Reconstruction Committee (representing the Association of Buddhist Monks, Nuns, and lay Buddhists from the same homeland, who are responsible for the finances). The Tổ Anniversary Festival is organised on a large scale, reaching the level of a major festival in the region, attracting thousands of monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists from across the country, as well as local monks, nuns, and thousands of local Buddhist devotees.
With its cultural, historical, and spiritual values, the pagoda was recognised as a national heritage site by the Ministry of Culture and Information under Decision No. 2009/QĐ – BVHTT dated 15/11/1991.
