Đại Phúc Pagoda
Hà Nội(Chùa Đại Phúc)
Overview & history
Đại Phúc Pagoda, also known as Ngọc Trục Pagoda, is located in Ngọc Trục village, Đại Mỗ ward, Hanoi city.
The pagoda was recognised by the Ministry of Culture and Information as a national historical and cultural relic in 1992.
History
The pagoda was built long ago and has been restored many times during the Later Lê dynasty. The most recent restoration was in 1947, organised by Elder Monk Thích Đàm Nhâm.
The pagoda is notable for its distinctive architectural and artistic value. From the outside in, the pagoda features the following structures: a two-storey gate built in the style of a five-entrance gate, a phương đình (square pavilion) constructed between the gate and the main hall. The main hall is built in the shape of the letter 'Đinh', consisting of a front hall and a sanctuary.
The main hall is arranged in a solemn manner. The pagoda houses 50 full-body statues, among which the most prominent are: the statue of Bodhisattva Di Lặc (0.60m high), the Tuyết Sơn statue (0.56m high; 19th century), the Cửu Long pedestal (18th century), the statue of Bodhisattva Chuẩn Đề, and others.
The pagoda has a great bronze bell cast in the 2nd year of Cảnh Thịnh (1794), but it has been broken. Inscriptions on the steles and bell indicate that the village was formerly called Thượng Thư village, later changed to Thượng Văn village together with Trung Văn village, both belonging to Ngọc Trục commune, Từ Liêm district, Quốc Oai prefecture, Sơn Tây province; later, it belonged to Đại Mỗ canton, Hoài Đức prefecture, Hà Đông province. Now, Thượng Văn village has been renamed Ngọc Trục in Đại Mỗ commune, while Trung Văn village belongs to Trung Văn commune.
