History
Trúc Lâm Giác Tâm Zen Monastery was built on the foundation of Phúc Linh Tự Pagoda (dating from the Trần dynasty, over 700 years ago). The monastery was inaugurated on 29-10-Kỷ Sửu (15 December 2009), after nearly two years of construction. The monastery was inaugurated in a spacious manner with a total construction cost of 24 billion VND, funded by mobilised social resources.
Architecture
Trúc Lâm Giác Tâm Zen Monastery was built on a total area of 20 hectares. The first phase has been completed, including: the monastery - main hall (chánh điện), triple-arched entrance gate (tam quan), ancestral house (nhà tổ), bell tower (lầu chuông), guest house for monks and nuns, and a parking wharf. The main hall has a total area of 6,000 m², consisting of two floors; the upper floor houses a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. The lower floor is the ancestral house, worshipping the patriarchs: Bodhidharma, founder of the Trúc Lâm Zen school, and the three Trần dynasty Buddhist kings and patriarchs—Trần Nhân Tông, Pháp Loa Đại Sư, and Huyền Quang Đại Sư—who contributed to the development and maintenance of the Trúc Lâm Zen school in Vietnam.
In the near future, Giác Tâm Monastery will continue with the second phase of construction, including such items as: abbot's quarters (thất đường trụ trì), dedicated meditation huts (thất chuyên tu), meditation hall (thiền đường), exhibition and dining hall (nhà trưng bày trai đường), and the erection of a 50-metre-high Buddha statue on the mountain peak behind the monastery.
